Dishonored: The Board Game has been part of our publishing plans for some time now, quietly waiting in the shadows. But behind the scenes, work has been moving forward with full force! We have been actively developing the game, shaping its systems, atmosphere, and story-driven experience. We absolutely cannot wait to show you more, and soon!
To give you a small glimpse behind the curtain, we asked our two main game designers to share a few words about their work on the project, their approach to bringing the world of Dishonored to the tabletop, and what players can expect when they finally enter the Empire of the Isles in board game form.
We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Bethesda, ZeniMax, and Arkane Studios teams for their ongoing guidance, their trust, and their support in helping us bring this beloved world to life on your tables.
A Word from the Design Team
Hello!
As the Main Designer for Dishonored: The Board Game, I'm responsible for translating video games directly onto your tabletop.
My primary focus is delivering the highest quality mechanics possible, ensuring every moment of stealth, every violent confrontation, and every world-altering decision feels authentic to the source material. You can be certain that we are working tirelessly to make sure this campaign is a cohesive, replayable, and utterly faithful experience that captures the dark, twisting magic of Dunwall.
We knew from the start that the core promise of the video game—the moral ambiguity and the tangible impact of violence—had to be the absolute heart of the tabletop game’s design. During the campaign, players will track their Chaos level: Choose the lethal path in a mission, and that choice will haunt the whole team. Instead of simply raising a global track, highly violent actions force players to add Chaos Drawback Cards permanently… These cards grant temporary power, but occupy vital hand or ability slots and carry a severe, persistent mechanical drawback, making the powerful player a stealth liability.
The quiet approach is not just a moral victory—it's a mechanical investment! Achieving high Reputation toward the People or the Law unlocks tiers on a permanent Reputation meter tracked between missions. These unlocks grant essential long-term utility, such as Scenario Bypass Options or permanent additions to your map setup (like a guaranteed hidden Sewer Tile), ensuring low-chaos play is constantly rewarded with tangible benefits that change how future scenarios are approached.
Hi everyone,
I am absolutely thrilled to be here today to share some monumental news with you all. It is my absolute pleasure to officially announce our next major project: Dishonored: The Board Game.
This project holds a very special place in my heart because I am stepping into the role of Product Lead. My primary mission is to ensure that from the initial concept to the final product on your shelves, this game stays deeply faithful to the atmosphere, lore, and stealth-action mechanics of the beloved video game franchise we all know and love.
Our goal is to invite you back to Dunwall to experience its dark history once more, but with a twist. We are shifting the perspective. This game offers a completely new point of view, giving you the unique opportunity to experience the story from the other side of the conflict.
Here is a sneak peek at what we’re building:
- Cooperative Gameplay:
Dishonored: The Board Game is a fully cooperative experience designed for 1 to 4 players.
- Playtime:
Each scenario is meticulously paced, lasting roughly 60 to 90 minutes.
- The Chaos System:
Just like the video game, the iconic Chaos Level is a core mechanic. Every decision you make, and every action your team takes, will carry weight, altering the world around you.
- Play Your Way:
During each scenario, you will have a wealth of tactical options. You can sneak through the shadows, utilize vertical movement, and avoid enemies entirely. But when things get heated, combat may become inevitable.
Actions Have Consequences
One of our most innovative mechanics is our progressive campaign system. In Dunwall, there are no do-overs. Even if you fail a scenario, the campaign doesn't halt, and you won't have to repeat the mission. Instead, you must live with the consequences of your failure as the story pushes forward into the next scenario. Your choices and your mistakes will shape your unique path.
Familiar Faces, New Roles
We are also incredibly excited about the visual side of the game. Our highly detailed miniatures feature iconic characters you will recognize instantly, including the legendary Corvo Attano. However, he won't be joining your team this time. As I mentioned earlier, you are looking at this world from a different angle, which means Corvo will be playing a very different role in your story.
I know you’re anxious to see more, and as your inside source, I can't wait to share more behind-the-scenes updates with you in the coming weeks.
Until next time, stay in the shadows and watch your step.
The Shadows Are Only Beginning to Stir
The Outsider watches. The plague-ridden streets remember. The choices you make will leave their mark.
This is only the beginning, and many good things are still to come. Soon, we will reveal more about the game, diving deeper into its mechanics, atmosphere, and the way we are translating the tension, stealth, supernatural powers, and moral weight of Dishonored into a board game experience.
Don’t wait! Follow the campaign, stay up to date with news, and prepare to return to Dunwall.
