Steel, firepower, and carefully planned battlefield setups take center stage in Symphony of Steel. This expansion introduces new opportunities to build decks around powerful vehicle synergies, experiment with single-type strategies, and create combinations capable of completely changing the course of a battle. From nearly indestructible Heavy Tank formations to strategies built around accumulating massive amounts of ammunition, let’s take a closer look at some of the combinations you can explore in Symphony of Steel.
Introduction to the Expansion
Symphony of Steel is a unique expansion in its own way. It was designed to showcase the power and sound of the vehicles. The artists did an absolutely fantastic job and really went the extra mile to capture the power and character of each tank. Additionally, many cards were designed to let you experience the symphony not only through the artwork, but also through their effects. That is why this expansion features many effects that only work when all of your vehicles on the battlefield are the same type. However, playing only one type of vehicle is not the only strategy you can pursue!

Tiger-Maus and Maus
The combination of these two cards is deadly and creates an almost indestructible setup. The idea is to include effects in your deck that provide VP tokens, ammo tokens, and some Repair effects in case your opponent has Explosive Ammo. Place the Tiger-Maus and Maus in positions 1 and 2, or 4 and 5, so they can be attacked from as few directions as possible. In the remaining positions, use vehicles that provide VP tokens and place them on the Tiger-Maus, allowing the Maus to protect it with its effect. You also want to collect ammo tokens, but don't spend them. You need them to reduce the damage from your opponent's attacks and keep your Maus alive for as long as possible! Repair effects will also help them survive.

However, you need to be patient, as this deck takes some time to get going. You need to find 2 out of 6 key cards and place a large number of VP tokens on your Maus, so the first round will most likely be a loss. With this in mind, you can choose a base that supports your economy or provides VP tokens, depending on which minor faction you pair with your German deck. Once the deck gets going, your opponent can see 2 or even 3 Maus vehicles on the battlefield as early as the third round, each with three VP tokens and crew providing an average of 2 VP. This can result in around 15 VP from just three vehicles, which your opponent is unable to destroy thanks to the Maus's ability.
"Heavy Metal"
Alright, let's take a look at another combination that focuses exclusively on one type of vehicle.
As the name suggests, this deck focuses on playing Heavy Tanks. However, to have a chance of winning, you also need to include cards with higher VP values or cards that provide VP tokens, so that your Heavy Tanks can contribute a significant number of points and help you win the round.

You have to be very careful, though, because you cannot afford to have a vehicle of any other type on the battlefield. Because of this, it is best to have only around 10 cards of other types in your deck. These can be played as crew, constructed as ammo depots, or discarded as ammunition for attacks. A good example is FV4004 Conway, which provides as many as 3 VP when played as crew, or Cruiser Mk. IV, which provides "only" 2 VP but also improves the survivability of your vehicles. Repairing your opponent's vehicles should not be a major problem, as this deck focuses more on keeping your own vehicles alive than on attacking, while maximizing all the bonuses you receive for playing Heavy Tanks.

DZT-159 Dragon's Soul
Of course, this expansion couldn't be complete without a "bomb" card that you can build an entire deck around. One of the best examples is DZT-159 Dragon's Soul.
The plan is very simple: survive for a few rounds, collect a huge number of ammo tokens, and blow up your opponent. For this strategy to work, the entire deck needs to be built around this card.
In addition to the usual vehicles used for combat and scoring VP, you need to carefully collect ammo tokens and avoid spending them at all costs. This strategy is very difficult and risky because, during the first few rounds, the deck can feel weaker than other decks due to the need to constantly accumulate ammo tokens. However, once you reach twenty ammo tokens, you have probably just won the game. Your opponent is forced to start attacking and playing suboptimally to prevent you from taking advantage of the initiative effect. However, this will usually still end in defeat for your opponent.

Some of the most interesting combinations for collecting ammo tokens are China–USSR and China–UK, combining cards from previous expansions. Here are some of the combinations we have played ourselves, but we encourage you to create your own decks and share your ideas with us!
Find Your Own Rhythm

These are only a few of the strategies you can build around the cards introduced in Symphony of Steel. Whether you prefer creating heavily fortified formations, focusing entirely on Heavy Tanks, or patiently building toward one devastating play, the expansion gives you plenty of opportunities to experiment with different approaches. Try these combinations for yourself, adapt them to your own playstyle, and see what other synergies you can discover.
