Solo mode

Creating a solo mode for a board game is not a simple process. Of course, you could introduce a completely different game mode designed only for solo players, but it would have no connection to the actual game. You could also create something that only partially resembles another player, but doesn't do what a real opponent would. However, at Archon Studio, we've taken on the truly challenging task of creating an Automa capable of playing and reacting like a true Master of Orion: Ad Astra player!

The Process of Creating an Automa

Making the Automa was a truly fascinating experience. Analyzing various players' gameplay styles and understanding how and when to make specific moves was incredibly time-consuming. We conducted hundreds of Automa tests, striving to ensure it mirrored the actions of a real player. Once we gathered all the necessary information, we were genuinely satisfied with the Automa's performance, but we decided not to stop there: we began refining all of the Automa's procedures while simultaneously streamlining how they work. This allowed us to create a highly efficient system that is both simple and intuitive to use.

Automa: More Than Just A Solo Mode

When creating the Automa, we focused on its versatility. So, when we say it replaces players, we mean it literally replaces a player. Do you only have five friends but want to play an epic six-player game? You can use the Automa as the sixth player! Did you arrange a four-person game night with friends, but unfortunately, one person can't make it at the last minute? You can use the Automa! The Automa is a truly phenomenal solution when you want to increase the number of players while maintaining the same level of gameplay. If you're just starting your Master of Orion adventure, you can play on the easy difficulty. If you're experienced veterans, then there's nothing stopping you from facing the Automa on hard difficulty.

What's New with the Automa

For fans of variety, we have good news: each empire will have its own version of the Automa. So, whether you want to face the Bulrathi Automa or the Mrrshan Pride Automa, you'll always have the freedom to choose which Empire the Automa embodies. We've also added the ability for the Automa to score points at the end of the game. Now, you're not just trying to beat your own score; you're truly competing with the Automa for all possible points! Don't be fooled – it can really rack up a lot of points, not just for owning systems, but also for public missions and even its own secret mission!
