But now let us talk more about another part of the campaign–new races introduced in our world because of the forbidden experiments performed by Dragsa.
After discovering the dormant power within the Roots of Life, the Fortress of Dragsa created several new races. Hybrids of humans and animals.
These races are treated as slaves or soldiers. While some revolted and created their own nation, many still remain under their creators' influence.
Below you can read about the most well-known races, whether it be due to their sheer amount, or just because of their notoriety within the world of Deuslair. Even the citizens of Dragsa themselves are not fully sure what else was created within their magical laboratories…
Kutauři
A race of half men, half horses, called centaurs by some. To be precise, due to being a hybrid of captured elves and other animals, they are closer to fey than regular humans. The Fortress used them as laborers for fields or even regular trade carts. They are very proud and abide by the rule that nobody will ever ride on their backs. Other than that they are always vigilant and tend to pick up on things missed by most. They are not bigger nor sturdier than humans, but because of their lower horse parts they appear much larger.
Vepři
The youngest of the hybrid races. Thanks to their appearance they are occasionally nicknamed by fellow countrymen as “pigfolk”. They are created to be loyal fanatics, always aiding the cause of their creators. Due to a seemingly inexhaustible amount of stamina, they are mainly used as foot soldiers in the Fortress of Dragsa’s armies. They are smaller than humans but bulkier, and similar in build and size to dwarfs. Since most of them are used as slaves and soldiers they do not follow any particular fashion, but mostly just wear light and heavy armor provided by their higher-ups. The lower their rank, the more broken and rusty their equipment is.
Testuda
A hybrid race created by combining the strongest prisoners with the toughest animal they could find. The end result is something that looks like a humanoid turtle… but they are more than meets the eye.. Their bodies are sturdy and perfect at taking many blows. But at the same time, their reflexes suffer with how heavy they are.
Slithers
Varying both in form and size, they are a group consisting of many different types of beastkin who inhabit water. They rebelled some time after the Medusas did. After liberation, they hid on the outskirts of the continent of Kallonia, to the far west where there are various sand spits or even partially submerged islands–the perfect place for beings like them. There they created their own country, which goes by “Encura”. They are slimmer than humans, with their build almost making them look as if they were starving, but this is entirely normal for them... Their body is covered with scales of different colors, ranging from light green to almost black purple. On rare occasions they are all white, but there are not many individuals that would have such a rare color. Their webbings between their fingers can be more or less prominent, but you can always see them.
Medusas
Little is known about this race. They were too hard to control so they rebelled as one of the first and later helped to liberate the Slithers. They also aided in the creation of Encura. Nevertheless, after these events, they disappeared from the records of history. At present, and only on rare occasions, they can be seen in settlements or as travelers hiding their identities. Apart from their heads, they are quite similar to humans in both size and build. They prefer long cloaks with hoods that can hide their features. Apart from that, they try to wear what is best to blend with what they see around.
