Welcome to Preternia!

The Lost World

When you combine the powers of magic and technology, the results can be pretty surprising. For example, you can go back in time! That may not be that bad. After all, who wouldn't want to meet real dinosaurs? I definitely would. Well, maybe not all dinosaurs, only peaceful herbivores. Unfortunately, our heroes couldn’t choose where they ended up, and they bumped into the nastiest creature that has ever walked Preternia – Tyrantisaurus!

More Relaxed Gameplay

The gameplay of Masters of the Universe: Battleground can be very challenging. Nothing wrong with that, but sometimes all you want is to sit down and enjoy a more straightforward, casual game with your friends and family. If you already own the starter set for Masters of the Universe: Battleground, but you always wanted to play it while relaxing you will definitely be interested in this expansion! Did you roll your eyes once you heard the word “casual”? Don’t leave yet. This expansion will have something for more competitive players as well.

Let the Hunt Begin!

Legends of Preternia introduces a brand new gameplay mode – the Hunt, which allows one or two forces to challenge the mightiest beast in all of Preternia. Yes, you read that correctly. You can play solo, which could be an excellent opportunity to test your force! If you would rather play with your mates, you can challenge the mighty dino as a team (but in that case, the beast's health will be doubled) for a more friendly multiplayer experience.

Behave Yourself

The Tyrantisaurus is activated using a unique Behavior deck that determines its action and the initiative. The Behavior Card is played every time players play their activation cards so that the dino will take many activations during every round. Taking down this beast won’t be easy.

Battle of Three Armies

Some players may not be interested in fighting an AI. We understand that. You can’t compare fighting a beast controlled by the deck of cards to a real thinking opponent. But what if I tell you that you don’t have to choose? The hunt can be played in a semi-cooperatively, which means both players will be fighting each other and the Tyrantisaurus at the same time!

King of the Jungle

In the semi-cooperative mode, players don’t score any points for defeating their opponent’s characters. They will only earn them by wounding the Trantisaurs and completing tasks from Glory Cards. So what’s more important, damaging a Tyrantisaurus to score some points or trying to knock out characters from the hostile force to cripple their ability to score? And remember - the other methods of winning still apply. If you remove all enemies from the battleground, you win no matter the points!

Tame the Dino!

The Tyrantisaurus always attacks the last character that activated before him. You can use this to your advantage and know which card you should play to make use of the dino or make sure it will attack the opponent instead.

Skeletor was the last activated character. The player playing as the Masters of the Universe knows that by using the right card, they can easily manipulate the Tyrantisaurus into attacking a character from the opposing force.

In the next round, the player controlling the Masters of the Universe decides to play a card with an initiative of 1. Tri-Klops moves first, and Tyrantisaurus after him, which means Tri-Klops is the last activated model before the Tyrantisaurus. The Tyrantisaurus moves forward to attack him, and by doing so, it will suffer an attack of opportunity from He-Man.

Competitive Play

If competitive play is your bread and butter, Legends Of Preternia will offer you a brand new battleground on which you can challenge your opponents. Deployment zones placed over the shorter edges of the map will change the flow of the battle, and new environmental hazards (swamps, lava pits and smoke), will provide new tactical opportunities.

Smoke over the Jungle

Those objects work very similarly to high obstacles - they block line of sight and provide cover. However, crossing them costs only two movement points (instead of six). The smoke offers great hiding places for all melee characters, in preparation to engage those pesky mages.

Swamps

Swamps are treated as difficult terrain. If any character starts movement on a hex containing this terrain piece, they receive two fewer movement points. It doesn't sound like much, but those nasty swamps tend to be placed in the most inconvenient places.

Lava

Whenever a character enters a hex occupied by lava, they immediately end their movement. Doesn't sound too bad, right? Well, that's not all. When a character ends movement on a hex with lava, they receive a wound. That sounds much worse, but that’s still not everything. When a character ends an activation on that hex, they will receive another wound. In other words, walking on lava isn’t good for your health.

And Now for Something Completely Different!

There is one more thing we need to cover - the feature we have decided to call “Advanced Battlegrounds”. These unique scenarios can change all rules of the game! For example in one of them, all characters enter the game without equipment but during the battle they can claim special tokens that allow them to get random weapons or items. In this scenario, any character can use any item! Yes, if you manage to find it, you can give the Sword of Power to Skeletor and make the evil lord’s dreams come true.

All languages are aboard!

It's worth mentioning that "Legends of Preternia" is the first expansion available in all supported languages on release! No more waiting for all non-English speaking players!
